God tells his people to seek the welfare of a city and pray for this place where they rather don't want to be - they are into exile, far from home, strangers, perhaps not welcome. But if they do so, they will find their welfare. Not easy to understand.
What does this mean for us? Are there situations or relationships that make us feel strange, somehow uncomfortable or out of place? Do we even think about to seek the welfare of this "place" / person and pray to the Lord on its behalf? To not remain in our thoughts about how difficult that situation / relationship is but seek the welfare on it? The verse ends with Gods promis that if we do what he wants us to do, we will find our welfare. So let us accept this challenge and experience the faithfulness of the most high!
